The construction of a new appartment house at the corner of Skerjabraut and Nesvegur in Seltjarnarnes, Iceland, is now passing well on. All kinds of sounds from various tools, equipments and human beings are heard from the building.

This morning I made some sound tests. The trafic behind is heard as well as some drops and summer birds. Good headphones recommended.

The recorder was Nagra Ares BBB+ with Rde NT-2A and NT-55 in an MS-setup. The original recording is in 24 bits.

Yet another tempest raged in Southwest Iceland in the morning of March 14 ths year. The wind speed was about 30 m/sek.

A recording was made in our living room facing south-west.

A Nagra Ares BB+ was used together with 2 Rde NT1-A microphones in an AB-setup. The original recording is in 48 kHz and 24 bits.

The lower frequencies have not been cut off. Therefore the deep rumbling sounds of the hous are easily heard. We heard them ourselves and therefor I thought it unnecessary to edit the sound.

The recording starts at 09:45.

Good headphones are recommended.

In the evening of December 1, 2014, we had a tempest from southwest in Southern Iceland. At Keflavik Airport the strongest blasts were at least 30 m/sec (108 km per hour). The weather is quite similar where I am living at Seltjarnarnes.

I placed 2 Rde NT1-A microphones in an AB-array with 30 cm spacing in the livingroom aproximately 2 m from the windows. It is quite interesting to sense the deep roaring of the house as an accompaniment to the wind, pressing through and some objects outside trying to leave the balcony. This recording describes what it is like staying alone at home as the tempest is raging outside.

Good headphones are strongly recommended.

At Kirkjubol south of the village of Hlmavk in North-west Iceland is a guesthous run by Jn Jnsson and his Wife, Ester Sigfsdttir. I and Elin stayed there the night before July 14 this summer. We set up 2 Sennheiser ME-62 mics in an AB-setup 12-14 m from the house, facing towards the hills. This sample of 15 minutes is from 01:23-01:38.

Just after the recording starts the wind increases. The tide is high and therefore the sound of the waves is heard as well as the klinging sounds of a small stream nearby. Most of the birds were so far away that some of them were hardly audible with human ears. As there are not much contrasts in this recording it was possible to increase the volume greatly.

Those who want to live themselve into the mysterious sounds of the Icelandic summer night can try to listen, if they can hear the sounds of the elfs and other supernatural beings of Iceland.

About 7 hours were recorded during this night with my excellent Nagra Ares BB+. More recordings are to be released later.

The Laugarnes in Reykjavik is in a way a quiet place. There is the Art Museum of the sculpture, Sigurjn lafsson and there is the world famous filmdirector, Hrafn Gunnlaugsson.

I and my wife, Elin, set up 2 Senheiser ME-62 mics close to the sea a little west from the art museum At the beginning of the recording a sight-seeing ship pas.ses by towards the harbour. Later in the recording (about 14 min) a ships can be heard heading towards the mics, but it turns to the north instead of sailing to the east.

The mics were in an AB-setup with only 16cm between them. S <Nagra Ares BB+ was used.

The recording may seem to be a little low. The volume was not increased to to some hight contrasts. The frequencies have not been cut.

In the evening of April 17 2014 a southwesterly storm went over southeast Iceland. The recording started in the kitchen of Rjur at Stvarfjrur, but the kitchen faces the northeast. Then I moved to the living room on the southwest side and ended at the room furthest to the west also facing southwest.

The house is built of wood and sounds like an excellent typical house of that kind.

The first recording is a sound immage of the storm in all the 3 rooms.

Recordings 2-4 are un-compressed recordings from the kitchen, living room and the room furthest to the west in WAV-form. Headphones are recommended.

Recorded with an Olympus LS-11.

On April 15 2014 I went to the farm of Heyklif, which lies between Stvarfjrur and Breidalsvk in Eastern Iceland, though closer to Stvarfjrur. In the cliffs north of the farm the fulmars are nesting. We set up the microphones close to the house which gave them a shelter from the strong southwestern wind.

The recording is quite descriptive for the sometimes stormy spring in Iceland. The deep sounds of the sea and the wind are heard as well as the fulmars, Redwings, some geeze, and other birds.

Headphones are recommended.

My assistants were Kristjn Agnar Vgsei, a 17 years old boy together with his grandfather, Hrafn Baldursson.

Two Rde Microphones NT-2A were used in an AB setup. The mics were in baskets and dead cats were also used.

In the first recording a flock og geeze is heard when 10 minutes have passed and a plower is heard in the second recording.

The mics were set up as omnidirectional and covered with fur as there was some breeze and showers. Headphones are recommended.

INENGLISH

The farm Heyklif is located on the peninsula Kambanes between Stvarfjrur and Breidalsvk in Eastern Iceland.
Today on April 10 2013 I and my friend, Hrafn Baldursson, went there to visit the farmers there. We wanted to see if the sea swallows had started thinking about their nests.
We went down to the shore, where there is a narrow channel into the coast, called Evil Stall. The cliffs on the opposite side are a little higher and therefore the ambience perfect.
While setting up the Rode NT-2A and NT-55 in a Blimp the wind started blowing from the north-east, which can be heard in the recording.
A Nagra Ares BB+ was used. My helping hands were Hrafn Baldursson and the farmer, Sturlaugur Einarsson.
Photos will be published later.
Good headpphones are recommended.
The recording was made in MS-stereo.

The 16 March 2013 was a bright day in Reykjavik with some gentle wind which played with my ears. Two of our
grandsons, 8 and 4 years old, went with us to the lake to feed the birds which seemd quite hungry. The children didn't like how aggressive the swans were.
When the bread was finished we went to a plaing-ground nearby. Outside an old and irritated dog was barking.
Bright winterdays in Reykjavik are usually market with the traffic of small aeroplanes. As I was mainly facing south-east it is quite audible where the planes were coming from or heading to.
Binaural mics from Sounds Professionals were used together with a Nagra Ares BB+
If good headsets are used the sound is really omnidirectional.
