Vindasamur morgunn - A windy morning

Noršaustan stormur ķ desember - A northeast storm in December

Vindur ķ hśsasundi - The wind between two houses

This summer has up to now been sunny, cold and windy. I noticed that the wind produced some special sounds on my balkony facing southwest. The northern wind now has to go through between our hous and the new one close to the west.
A simple geer was used, Olympus-11.
The recording is in 24 bits and the download can therefore be a little slow.
Good headphones are recommended.

Ofvišriš 14. mars - The Tempest on March 14

Enn eitt óvešriš geisaši į sunnanveršu landinu aš morgni 14. Mars 2015. Į Keflavķkurflugvelli var vindhrašinn um 30 m/sek kl. 10:00 og mį gera rįš fyrir aš hann hafi veriš svipašur hér į Seltjarnarnesi.

Tękifęriš var notaš og ósköpin hljóšrituš ķ stofunni į heimili okkar sem veit mót sušvestri. Notašur var Nagra Ares BB+ hljóšriti įsamt tveimur Rųde NT1-A hljóšnemum ķ AB-uppsetningu.

Hljóšritun hófst kl. 09:45.

Upprunalega hljóšritiš er 24 bita og 48 kķlóriš. Ekkert hefur veriš skoriš af lįgtķšni hljóšritsins, en hin djśpu hljóš, sem steinsteypt hśs gefa jafnan frį sér ķ ofvišri, heyršust vel og žvķ óešlilegt aš breyta žeim. Eindregiš er męlt meš góšum heyrnartólum.

Yet another tempest raged in Southwest Iceland in the morning of March 14 ths year. The wind speed was about 30 m/sek.

A recording was made in our living room facing south-west.

A Nagra Ares BB+ was used together with 2 Rųde NT1-A microphones in an AB-setup. The original recording is in 48 kHz and 24 bits.

The lower frequencies have not been cut off. Therefore the deep rumbling sounds of the hous are easily heard. We heard them ourselves and therefor I thought it unnecessary to edit the sound.

The recording starts at 09:45.

Good headphones are recommended.

Vindur blęs um vetrarnįtt - The Wind in the Winter Night

IN ENGLISH

In the evening on December 6 2014 I placed 2 Sennheiser ME-62 mics outside the balcon on our flat in Seltjarnarnes, Iceland, in an AB-setup with 30 mm spacing. They were covered with a fur from Rycote.

At 4:25 in the morning the wind had started blowing from the north-east. Instead of the deep sound of the ocean som 1 km away the sound of a fan in a nearby house under construction was overwhelming.

If the listener uses all his/her attention the wind can be heard whirling some snowflakes around and swans flying to the south in the far west. All kinds of sounds from the building is also here and there.

Good headphones are strongly recommended.

Ofvišri ķ desember - A Tempest in December

Aš kvöldi sunnudagsins 1. desember gekk ofvišri yfir vestanvert landiš. Į Keflavķk varš vešurhęšin allt aš 30 m. Mį žvķ bśast viš aš vešurhęšin hafi veriš svipuš į Seltjarnarnesi, en vešurfari žar svipar mjög til Keflavķkur.

Ég kom fyrir tveimur Rųde NT1-A hljóšnemum ķ AB-uppsetningu meš um 30 cm millibili į boršstofuboršinu u.ž.b. 2 m frį gluggunum.

In the evening of December 1, 2014, we had a tempest from southwest in Southern Iceland. At Keflavik Airport the strongest blasts were at least 30 m/sec (108 km per hour). The weather is quite similar where I am living at Seltjarnarnes.

I placed 2 Rųde NT1-A microphones in an AB-array with 30 cm spacing in the livingroom aproximately 2 m from the windows. It is quite interesting to sense the deep roaring of the house as an accompaniment to the wind, pressing through and some objects outside trying to leave the balcony. This recording describes what it is like staying alone at home as the tempest is raging outside.

Good headphones are strongly recommended.

Raforkuvindmyllur - Wind Turbines

Į sķšu landsvirkjunar segir m.a.:

Will the wind finally do some good?

In December, Landsvirkjun erected two wind turbines, in an area known as Hafiš, within the construction area of Bśrfell Power Station, in the south of Iceland. The turbines have a total of 2 MW of installed power. The project is part of Landsvirkjun’s research and development project on the advantageous of wind power in Iceland. There are a number of areas in Iceland that show great potential for the successful utilisation of wind energy.

The wind turbines each have a 900 kW capacity and together their generating capacity could be up to 5.4 GWh per year. The masts is 55 metres heigh and each spade measures 22 metres in length. When the spades are at their highest position the unit is 77 metres of height. Wind turbines developed for further energy production will in all likelihood be larger than the most powerful turbines presently operating in Iceland today, reaching 7.5MW.

When we were there on July 26 the wind was only 5-10 mYsec and the average power only about 75kW for each turbine. We went to the turbine further north as there were no tourists. There we captured the sound. It can be heard during the recording that the sound of the spades changes according to the wind.

Good headphones recommended.
